‘Development work in 371 colonies over’
The city government on Sunday claimed to have constructed over 800 km of roads and 1500 km of drains in total 371 unauthorised colonies. Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Develop-ment Corporation (DSIIDC) was tasked with carrying out developmental work in 634 unauthorised colonies across 21 Assembly constituencies.
“The work in 371 colonies had been completed,” a senior DSIIDC official said, adding that an expenditure of `1,334 crores was incurred on improving basic infrastructure in the colonies. The official also said that projects worth `278 crores were currently in progress in 97 other colonies and will be completed by the end of the current financial year.
He said Shriram Institute for Industrial Research has been entrusted with the task of ensuring quality in the projects being implemented by the DSIIDC.
The government had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies in September last year. Various agencies had been tasked with improving basic infrastructure in the colonies.
The government had issued provisional regularisation certificates to over 1,639 unauthorised colonies ahead of the Assembly polls in 2008.
Out of the 1,639 colonies, 895 were regularised in September last year.
The unauthorised colonies are considered traditional votebanks of the Congress party.
