Depressed over brother’s death, cop shoots self
A 30-year-old Delhi police constable allegedly shot himself dead with his service pistol at his residence in northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri area on Monday morning. The police said the victim was in depression after the untimely death of his younger brother who died in a road accident.
The deceased, Vipin Malik, lived in Ganga Vihar, Gokalpuri. He had joined Delhi police in 2003 and was currently posted in northeast district’s special branch. A note recovered from his possession stated that he was taking the extreme step of his own will and no one in his family should be blamed for it.
A senior police officer said that Vipin was found lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom when his wife Namita rushed in on hearing a gunshot.
Namita was preparing breakfast in the kitchen when the incident took place, the police said.
“We received a PCR call about the incident. By the time we reached Malik had expired. He was in depression since the death of his younger brother who was very close to him,” a senior police officer said adding that Malik had returned home after night duty.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered.
