Delhi chief secy in race for DERC top post
Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta, along with a number of retired IAS officers, is learnt to have applied for the post of the chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).
A search panel is expected to select the DERC chairman by April.
The DERC has been without a chairman for about six months after the retirement of the last chairman Berjinder Singh.
Apart from the chairman, the DERC consists of two more members, though the regulatory body is currently having just one member.
Mr Mehta is reported to have applied for the post of the DERC chief, though he is to retire in December this year.
If selected, Mr Mehta would have to take voluntary retirement from services, as was done by the principal secretary (health) of the Delhi government J.P. Singh after his selection as a member.
The DERC chairman has a fixed tenure of five years.
Mr Mehta has a strong base in the power sector as he is also holding the post of the principal secretary (power) of the Delhi government apart from being the chief secretary.
