DDA yet to finalise flat auction plan
The final decision about the auction of 100 flats in the Commonwealth Games Village will take some time as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is yet to send the proposal, which has been passed by the authority in a meeting, to the Union urban development ministry. The ministry will have to approve the decision before its implementation. DDA sources said that there was no problems as such and it was only a matter of procedure.
Union urban development minister S. Jaipal Reddy had last week told Parliament that though the DDA had taken a decision to auction 100 flats and give the rest of the 600-odd flats in the Games village to the government departments, organisations and the public sector units, the proposal has not yet reached the ministry. Hence, no decision has been taken.
DDA sources said that once a proposal is approved in the meeting of the authority, its meetings have to be confirmed by various participants which takes some time and is usually done in the next meeting. Once the minutes of the meeting are confirmed, which is likely in a few days, the proposal would be forwarded to the ministry.
Out of the 1,168 flats built in the Games Village, the DDA has in its possession more than 700 flats, thanks to a buy back arrangement arrived at with the builder in 2009 to bail it out of financial crunch and get the Village ready in time for the Games in October this year.
