DDA offers 16,000 new houses in city

Two years after its scheme for 5,000-odd flats got mired in controversies, the DDA on Friday announced its biggest housing scheme till date, offering nearly 16,000 flats in the city. The proportion of the houses for the economically weaker section (EWS), introduced for the first time, is the highest and has more than 11,000 flats. Thanks to maintenance charges being levied to look after the common areas and the exteriors for a period of 30 years, the houses will be slightly costlier than the previous schemes.

The DDA has also made it mandatory for the allottees to make the payments from their own accounts only. This has been done in a bid to keep the property dealers at bay.
The involvement of some unscrupulous property dealers in the housing scheme in 2008 had seen houses being allotted to people from far-off villages in Rajasthan who were not even aware that their names have been used.
Apart from more than 11,000 EWS flats under the scheme, “DDA Housing Scheme-2010”, there will be around 600 two-bedroom flats besides 3,200 three-bed room flats.
The flats in Vasant Kunj and Dwarka will be expensive. The flats in Vasant Kunj, which could not be readied for the Common-wealth Games, will be furnished and may cost over `1 crore.
These flats are located across the capital. Apart from Vasant Kunj and Dwarka, the flats are available in Mukherjee Nagar, Motia Khan, Jasola, Dwarka, Rohini, Narela, Jaffrabad and Kondli. Most of the one-room flats are in Narela, Trilokpuri and Shivaji Enclave.
Both husband and the wife can apply but the house will be allotted to only one. The scheme will open on November 25 and the forms will be on sale till December 24.
The application forms would be available for `105 and a registration money of `1.5 lakhs will have to be deposited. The draw of lots will be carried out four months after the close of sale of forms.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
