DDA to give Nazul land for schools
In a bid to facilitate opening of new schools to fulfil the norms under the Right to Education Act, the Delhi Cabinet on Monday gave its nod to allotment of Nazul land by Delhi Development Authority to private educational institutions and societies.
“The new policy will facilitate opening of more schools in view of the Right to Education (RTE) Act implementation to impart education to every child up to the age of 14 years,” said chief minister Sheila Dikshit after the Cabinet meeting.
“In view of the RTE Act, there is a need to open more schools by the government as well as private societies. Even the city government has been finding it difficult to obtain land for educational institutions,” she added.
The DDA has been allotting Nazul land to private educational institutions at concessional rates on recommendation or sponsorship by a Land Allotment Committee of the city government. The policy was amended in 2006 and mode of disposal of land from allotment to auction was implemented with effect from April, 2006. With this amendment the Land Allotment Committee under the city government became defunct.
However, after implementation of the RTE Act the chief minister raised the matter with the Union urban development minister and HRD minister and requested an amendment in DDA’s policy of disposal of Nazul land for educational societies which had to pay hefty amount for land and were not able to meet their operational cost through tuition fee only.
