Cut-off dip spurs rush for college of choice

A day after the second cut off list, Delhi University witnessed a different kind of rush with many students filling the cancellation form at colleges where they have been admitted and taking admission in a colleges of their choice.
In the fear of not getting admission, many students took admission wherever they got after the first list and now they are moving to colleges of their choice after the cut-off dipped.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay College had closed admission in commerce but on Monday around 20 students got their admission cancelled, leaving seats vacant. The college will reopen admission for B.Com. from Tuesday, with a minimum of 95 per cent.
However, seats in economics, English and science, which are open for students in second cut off are almost full, said DDU principal.
Gargi College saw 90 candidates withdrawing on Monday. “We received 90 cancellation applications today and most of the withdrawals are from commerce and economics. We have returned their original documents and fee,” said principal of Gargi College Dr Shashi Tyagi.
Students have got admissions cancelled even from some of the top colleges like SRCC where around 4-5 students submitted applications for cancellation of admission.
Similarly, seven cases of withdrawal were reported from the Colleges of Vocational Studies.
Meanwhile, near about 80-90 students and parents staged a protest outside the College of Vocational Studies for not giving admission in English (H) even after they were eligible under the first cut-off list
According to a student, “On Saturday, there were around 80 students, out of which around 40 students were registered and the rest were given assurance in written that their admission will be done on Monday. Today they are refusing to open the counter.”
