Couple held for torturing help

A couple was arrested here on Thursday for brutally torturing their under-age domestic help, the police said. The rescued boy has been handed over to a shelter for children. He hails from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.

Amit Kumar, 37, and his wife Geeta, 35, were arrested for severely beating their 16-year-old domestic help. The boy was apparently tortured for a long time. The victim had been working with the couple for more than two years, the police said. Amit works in a private firm. His wife generally stayed home during the day at their Sector 57 house.
The victim has several burn-marks on his body. Unable to bear the torture any longer, the boy escaped and was brought to the police by a child helpline.
