Could cops have averted shootout?
In what shows major negligence on part of the Delhi police, liquor baron Ponty Chaddha and his brother Hardeep Chadha could have been saved had the Delhi police PCR van responded properly to the PCR call of a scuffle and aerial firing which occurred just before the killing of the duo in Chhatarpur.
Senior police officials said that the PCR van which went to the spot found nothing suspicious and returned from the gate of the farmhouse. Meanwhile, the police arrested four persons who were allegedly involved in the trespassing incident at the Chhatarpur farmhouse. The arrested men are said to be Ponty’s guards and they have been remanded to five days police custody.
“Ponty’s men are said to have forcibly entered Hardeep’s farmhouses in Bijwasan and Chhatarpur area at around 11 am on Saturday morning. They broke the locks and forcibly evicted Hardeep’s men who were present at the farmhouses.
They fired some aerial shots during the scuffle in Chhatarpur farmhouse and one of Hardeep’s men made a PCR call at around 11.50 am. Surprisingly, the PCR van that went to the spot found nothing and returned,” said a senior police official.
Half-an-hour after the first PCR call was made, at around 12.28 pm, the police received another PCR call regarding a shootout and killing of two persons from the same farmhouse and later the deceased were identified as Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Chadha. When asked about the inefficiency of the PCR staff which could have saved the life of Chadha brothers, the police official said that it is a matter of investigation. “Four of Chaddha’s men identified as Uday Raj Singh, Bhupinder Singh Bisht, Raj Pal and Anand Singh Bisht are arrested. All of them were arrested for trespassing in the Chattarpur farmhouse,” said Vivek Gogia, joint commissioner of police (south western range). The police has lodged three FIRs so far in this case. However, no arrests were made in the FIR of shootout.
