Cops stop BJP men on candle march
Scores of BJP supporters were stopped by the police near the Parliament House on Saturday when they tried to take out a candlelight march towards India Gate to protest the rape of a five-year-old girl here.
Some of the BJP supporters tried to break barricades near Imtiaz Khan Marg, just 200 metres from the Parliament House, but were prevented by the police. The police arrested a number of protesters, including Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel, but later released them. The protesters started the march from Talkatora Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Saturday issued a notice to the police asking it to explain why the parents of the five-year-old rape victim were “harassed” in the police station when they had gone there to register a case.
The DCPCR also asked the police to explain the “delay” in registering the case.
“We issued a notice to the police asking them for an explanation as to why the parents were harassed in the police station and why there was a delay in registering the case,” a DCPCR official said.
“The DCPCR shall look into the case in detail and take steps to ensure full protection to the child,” said the official. “The commission shall also ensure that the child gets appropriate compensation from the state for her rehabilitation,” he said.
