Cops stabbed by goon, open fire
An alleged criminal attacked two policemen with a knife early on Sunday. The attacker also sustained bullet injuries when the policemen fired in retaliation.
According to the police, the incident was reported at around 12.15 am on Sunday when head constable Balwan and constable Surajbhan went to the house of Rahul Sharma, an alleged local goon, to summon him for questioning over some incident.
The police said after a short session of questioning, the policemen asked Sharma to come with them to the police station. Sharma refused to accompany them which led to a heated conversation between them. Sharma picked up a knife and attacked the policemen.
“When Sharma tried to flee the policemen warned him of opening fire. The police fired three rounds which hit Sharma in hand and thigh and he collapsed. However, his associates succeed in escaping,” said a senior police official.
The injured policemen called for assistance and were taken nearby hospital where they are being treated.
Later the police arrested Sharma’s associate Mohit. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at the Ranhola police station in this regard.
