Cops nab criminal after 4-km chase
The policemen posted with the PCR wing of the Delhi police chased criminals in a car, opened 10 rounds of fire and managed to nab one. The incident took place near National Market in Mianwali Nagar area of West Delhi at around 8 am.
Additional commissioner of police (west) V. Renganathan said Sajan, a resident of Nihal Vihar, was arrested and 20 kg of poppy husk was recovered from him.
A police officials said that the policemen in the PCR van stationed near Radisson Blu Hotel were going towards National Market to take drinking water.
When they reached near Nagin Lake apartment they noticed a Honda City in which Sajan was with his brother. The policemen signalled them to stop the car but the accused took a turn to flee.
“Instead of stopping, they accelerated the car and fled towards PVC Market, then Mian Wali Nagar and towards LIC Colony. The PCR van chased them for around four kilometres,” said the senior police official.
When the accused did not stop, the police gave warning but the accused kept driving. Constable Somvir then opened fire at the car’s tyre. He fired 10 rounds out of which three hit the car. Finally the car stopped at GH-6, Paschim Vihar red light and the two tried to flee. They were chased and Vikram Kumar, alias Saajan, was nabbed.
The official said an FIR under Section 28 of the NDPS Act was lodged against him.
The police recovered a sackful of poppy husk from the car.
Sajan revealed that he was going to deliver the husk to a client.
