Cops grope for leads, suspect’s sketch out
The Delhi police has deputed 19 different teams, including personnel from the crime branch and special staff (south) to probe the murder of the 21-year-old Ramlal Anand College student Radhika Tanwar, a resident of Naraina village, who was shot dead on the foot overbridge in Dhaula Kuan on Tuesday. The police released a
sketch of the suspect on Wednesday and obtained the call detail records of the victim. But they have not yielded any concrete information so far and are being scanned. Sources said that three youth of Naraina village were questioned after it was revealed that the girl was allegedly stalked by a man some years ago.
“The stalker was assaulted by the three youth, who are neighbours of the deceased. They took him to Radhika’s house where he was assaulted by her father,” said a source. When asked, Mr Dhaliwal said, “All angles are being probed, and except robbery, nothing can be ruled out”.
Meanwhile, after visiting Radhika’s family, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said: “Attacks are taking place on women. We hardly hear about any such attempts on men. The police must be more sensitive to ensure safety and security of women.” She also reiterated that the issue was a matter of grave concern.
The chief minister’s remarks come a day after she had said, in the presence of the Delhi police commissioner, that it was a matter of shame that the women in the city did not feel safe. She also assured the family that they would be extended all possible help.
A large number of DU students staged a protest march, holding placards demanding justice for Radhika. A large number of students from South Campus demanded justice for the murdered student.
