Cops grope for lead in Shobhit murder

Fresh leads have emerged in the murder of engineering student, Shobhit Modi, with police sources claiming that the suspect is close to being identified and a manhunt is on to nab him.

The investigators are examining the possibility that the assailants were “hired” to execute the victim, probably due to a sordid love affair. Shobhit was found badly injured, with multiple stab wounds, at the entrance of C-5, Vasant Kunj in south Delhi last week and was later declared dead at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Police sources said some fresh leads have emerged in the case after going through the call detail records of the victim and the ambit of investigation has been widened to cover other aspects that may have led to Shobhit’s murder. “We are examining the case from all the possible angles. Probe is underway and we request people with any knowledge about the suspect to approach us,” joint commissioner (southern range), Amulya Patnaik said.
Asked whether any fresh lead has emerged in the case, Mr Patnaik said, “These are all speculations. We are investigating the murder from a number of angles and nothing has been ruled out. In a blind murder case such as this, the investigations focus on a number of aspects until a breakthrough is achieved”.
The police said Shobhit had stopped to buy an ice cream from a vendor near the gate of C-5, Vasant Kunj after leaving DLF Promenade mall on the fateful day. “Questioning of Shobhit’s friends has not yielded any major lead. We are working on other angles as well. There is a strong possibility that he was being followed by someone who attacked him,” a senior police officer said.
Besides his friends, the police has also questioned the vendors, security guards and a shopkeeper at a Mother Dairy booth, opposite the spot where Shobhit was found bleeding, for any leads in the case. The scene of crime was also reconstructed on Saturday but a breakthrough has evaded the police so far.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
