Cops find new suspects, sight success
Investigations into the murder of teenager Shobhit Modi have revealed that the deceased maintained contact with a close group of “friends” not known to his family.
“Our investigations suggest that Shobhit maintained contact with a close group of “friends” who are not known to either his family or most of his other friends. We are in
the process of identifying the suspects and investigations are being conducted in the right direction,” joint commissioner of police (southern range) Amulya Patnaik said. He however declined to elaborate the details of the new “suspects”.
Police sources said the suspects came under the scanner of investigators during the questioning of more than 400 persons in the murder case. “We have got positive leads that these suspects may be involved in the murder. They are being identified and we are hopeful of a breakthrough very soon,” a source said.
The police is also planning to announce a cash reward to anyone giving information on the suspects. “There are certain aspects of his life which are not known to anyone close to him. During analysis of his call detail records of his cell phone, it came to light that Shobhit was in touch with a number of people who are not known to either his close friends or his parents. These suspects are being investigated thoroughly before we can call them up for questioning and investigate their role in the murder,” the source said.
20-year-old Shobhit Modi was stabbed by unknown assailants just a few hundred metres from his Vasant Kunj home on May 7. The police has questioned more than 400 people including vendors, TSR drivers, security guards and a number of offenders to crack the case but a breakthrough has eluded them so far.
