Cops bust arms racket, arrest 2

The police on Saturday said that it has arrested two persons, including an Army man, for running a gunrunning racket in the capital. The police has started a hunt for illegal arms’ suppliers ahead of the election. The police arrested the two accused and recovered 15 illegal firearms, 40 live cartridges and a stolen Bolero jeep from their possession. The accused have been identified as Yashpal Sharma and Lokender Singh, alias Fauji.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (south) P.S. Kushwah said inspector Atul Verma got a tip-off that two persons involved in supplying illegal arms would be coming in Mehrauli to deliver a consignment of illegal firearms.
The police then got to know that two men carrying illegal arms and ammunition would be going through MG Road to supply the same somewhere in Gurgaon. The police laid a trap and arrested the accused.
The accused revealed that they used to procure illegal arms from one Man Singh, alias Mana, and Tara Chand, both resident of Aligarh, UP.
“Yashpal Sharma has previous criminal record. Lokender is a constable in Indian Army,” said the police official.

Girl missing since 2009 traced

The crime branch of the Delhi police recovered a girl kidnapped from Burari and reunited her with her family.
A senior police official said that an FIR of her kidnapping was lodged in 2009. The official said, “When all possible efforts made to trace the girl went in vain, the police also declared a reward of `50,000 for information about the girl or the kidnapper.” The case was then entrusted to the crime branch which started the probe afresh. During investigation, it came to light that the girl was fond of wrestling and used to practice on the banks of the Yamuna. “We also found that she used to take anti-depressants and started searching her in hospitals in Delhi and other states. Finally, the girl was found admitted in Rajkiya Mahila Sharnalaya Bareilly, UP,” said additional commissioner of police (crime branch) Ravindra Yadav.
The crime branch then reunited the girl with her family.
