Cops’ claim of crime dip fails scrutiny
If the official figures of the Delhi police are to be believed, the city has witnessed a decline in the number of rape and molestation cases over the last three years. Yet, it is identified as a metropolitan city where criminals kidnap women, rape them, and sometimes kill them to destroy evidence linking them to the crime!
The latest study conducted by National Crime Records Bureau states that Delhi is the “most unsafe metro” for women in India.
So, the question that arises is; if crime has gone down in Delhi, where does the Delhi police fail, if it fails at all, to bring a sense of security among citizens, particularly the women in the city? The broad daylight shooting of Radhika Tanwar on Tuesday morning is another stark reminder of how the Delhi police pitiably refuses to learn from its experiences.
For one reason, Dhaula Kuan is known for a number of sensational molestation, rape and murder cases. Yet the efforts to curb crime in the area have not yielded any results.
The local residents allege that the presence of security personnel has not been visibly increased and even the safety devices like CCTV cameras have not been installed.
