Cop’s son among 2 held for snatching
Two motorcycle-borne assailants attacked a girl student in Rajouri Garden area of west Delhi and snatched her gold chain on Monday evening. Three police teams gave the assailants a chase which lasted for more than an hour and managed to catch them and found that one of them is the son of a Delhi police officer and other of a civil defence officer.
The incident took place at around 4.30 pm on Monday when the victim was returning home. The assailants attacked her near Shivaji Park, Vishal Chowk, Rajouri Garden, on a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, snatched her gold chain and sped off. She started screaming for help and caught the attention of passersby and a police constable Sadhu Ram alerted his seniors about the snatching.
The police swung into action and erected barricades at all entry and exit points in the area. For more than an hour, the assailants kept evading the police but soon ran out of luck as the police finally caught up with them.
The accused were identified as Nikhil Kumar, whose father is posted with the PCR branch of Delhi police, and Jeet Pal, whose father is an official in civil defence. The two have been booked in a case of theft and the police is suspecting that they may be involved in similar incidents reported from west Delhi in the past.
The motorcycle used in the crime has been seized but officials refused to confirm if it was the official bike used by Delhi police.
