Convicts to serve at old-age home
In an unusual judgment, Rohini Court additional sessions judge (ASJ) Dr Kamini Lau has asked two convicts to serve at an old age home as punishment for outraging the modesty of a girl seven years ago.
Dr Lau, in her order, said, “Convict Aman Sood shall render service to the old age home for a period of one year and convict Ravi shall serve for six months, for at least two days in a week for a minimum period of one hour on each day.”
The convict Ravi was held guilty under Section 342 (wrongful confinement), while his associate Aman was convicted under Section 354 (outraging the modesty of woman), apart from Section 342 of the IPC. Discarding the plea of the accused that they were being implicated in the case, Dr Lau said, “There is no reason to disbelieve the version given by the victim and her father as the accused have failed to produce any evidence to prove that the victim was in a relationship with one of the accused.”
The court released the two on probation under the Probation of Offenders Act after they apprised it of their desire to atone for the wrongs by serving the society.
The girl had alleged in her petition filed in the court that the duo assaulted her at Hastsal Vihar in 2003. The girl said the duo had pushed her inside a room and Ravi locked the room from outside while Aman stayed inside and assaulted her. She was rescued by neighbours when she raised an alarm.
