Convict flings desk at judge

A metropolitan magistrate at the Saket court complex has registered a complaint against a convict, who turned violent after his conviction and threw a wooden desk at her. Luckily for the magistrate, the desk flung at her just brushed past her shoulder.

Outraged over his conviction in a separate case, Jai Bhagwan turned violent, when his sentence was being pronounced and threw a wooden reading desk at metropolitan magistrate Chetna Singh, the FIR registered last week at the Saket police station here says.
Jai Bhagwan is facing conviction under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint)/ 34 (common intention) in a case registered against him in the year 2009.
As the court began reading his quantum of sentence in the case on July 19, Jai Bhagwan was outraged and tried to cause hurt to the magistrate by throwing the desk at her. Soon he was overpowered by the court staff and the policemen who had escorted him to the courtroom from the lock-up.
“While being taken away, he resisted forcibly and even assaulted the policemen trying to take him away and started shouting ‘Chetna Singh hai hai’. He became very violent and threatened the undersigned with dire consequences and had to be overpowered by five-six people before being led away to the lock-up,” the complaint said.
The police officials have registered a complaint against Jai Bhagwan under Sections 186 (obstruction of public servant in discharge of his public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The case is being probed.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
