Constable killed, another hurt in hit-and-run case

A head constable was killed and a constable injured during traffic checking here on Wednesday morning when a speeding SUV rammed into them while trying to avoid getting caught.

The incident took place in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area at around 7.45 am and the deceased has been identified as Nehander, a head constable attached with with the traffic police.
Constable Ankit, who was with Nehander in the post, was injured. Nehander and Ankit were posted on the toll road leading to Noida to check overspeeding vehicle. The interceptor vehicle found that an UP registration vehicle was speeding beyond the permissible limit. “They signalled the vehicle to stop but the driver in a bid to escape prosecution overtook a vehicle and ran over the policemen. The driver fled after the incident,” a senior police official said.
