Congress MP house burgled
Unidentified robbers broke into the residence of a Congress MP in the high-security New Delhi area early on Saturday and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, the police said.
Police officials said the incident came to light when a domestic help of the MP, Harish Chaudhary, who represents Barmer constituency of Rajasthan, made a PCR call at around 6.30 am on Saturday stating that the residence was ransacked and a window was broken.
A police team immediately rushed to the spot and started investigating the matter.
The team collected fingerprints from the scene of crime and also recorded the statement of the help. A case has been registered at the Parliament Street police station.
Police sources revealed that the robbers had gained access by breaking open a window of 214, North Avenue residence of Mr Harish Chaudhary who is reported to be in his constituency. The sources revealed that an almirah was broken by the robbers and two rooms were ransacked.
“It is suspected that the burglars took away cash and jewellery believed to be worth Rs 5 lakhs,” a senior police official said.
The sources revealed that the domestic help, who alerted the police, was alone at the house when the incident happened.
Additional commissioner of police, New Delhi, S.S. Dass could not be reached for his comments despite several repeated attempts.
