Cong mulls Lokayukta order on Chouhan

The PWD minister Raj Kumar Chouhan’s position in the Delhi Cabinet is believed to be on shaky grounds with the Congress high command reportedly not in a mood to ignore recommendation of the Lokayukta to the President for his ouster from the council of ministers.

A Congress spokesman had on Monday indicated that the party high command would not act the way the BJP did for similar Lokayukta indictment against Karnataka ministers.
In fact a section of senior Congress leaders in Delhi have already begun behind the door campaign for ouster of the beleaguered minister, who is also known to enjoy blessings of a section of senior Congress leaders.
Last week the Delhi Lokayukta in its recommendation to the President had indicted Mr Raj Kumar Chouhan for being prima facie guilty of favouring a private resort when the tax authorities had gone to conduct a raid.
“At a time when the top leadership of the Congress, including the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has stated time and again that there would be tolerance of corruption, it’s only a matter of time that Mr Chouhan is asked to go.
This will help the party from taking a moral high ground and also in avoiding giving the Opposition an issue before the Budget session of the Assembly,” stated a senior Congress leader.
The Delhi BJP too on Tuesday passed a resolution in its executive meeting for the dismissal of Mr Chouhan and registration of an FIR against him on the basis of the Lokayukta recommendation.
“BJP is concerned with the fact that even after lapse of five days the recommendations of Delhi Lokayukta for the removal of Mr Chouhan have not been followed and acted upon. In the present case, the commission of offences under Section 89 (4) (i) & (k) of the DVAT Act, 2004 have been fully established against the accused minister,” stated the Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta.
