Cong leader’s brother shot dead
A 35-year-old man, reportedly the brother of Congress leader and former deputy mayor Razia Sultan, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Seelampur, northeast Delhi.
A police source said the deceased, Salim, was the main accused in a murder case and was currently out on bail.
“The assailants had attacked him last year. He survived but was crippled by the bullet injury in his leg,” said a senior police official.
Salim lived with friend Aamir in a a rented accommodation and ran a shop nearby. His wife Shahida Begum lives in Dhauhan Bangar with her children.
“On Wednesday at around 9 pm, Salim and Shahida were having dinner when assailants barged inside. They shot Salim and fled,” said the official.
Shahida claimed that the assailants were led by Arif, the brother of man Salim is accused of murdering. “Arif killed my husband. He shot my husband in the forehead,” alleged Shahida.
Shahida immediately called the police and informed her relatives.
The police lodged an FIR of murder on the complaint of Shahida. “Arif and his accomplices are absconding, we have launched a manhunt to nab them,” said the official.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman allegedly tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire at Bapa Nagar in Prasad Nagar area.
A senior police official said the woman Shahzadi Khatoon lives on rent with her four children. “Her husband Riyaz died two years ago. On Thursday at around 5 am she set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on self,” said the police official.
A fire brigade official said they reached at the spot at 6.15 am, doused the fire and rushed her to RML Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital said that Shahzadi has received 90 per cent burns and her condition is extremely critical.
