Complaint cell officers to be placed at venues
Visitors at the Commonwealth Games will now have an easy interaction with the local police. The city government, after a recommendation by Organ-ising Committee officials during a recent Cabinet meeting, has decided to deploy its complaint cell officials at all Games sites.
“It was discussed during a Cabinet meeting that the visitors might find difficulties in interacting with the local police in cases of crime against them. With the presence of trained complaint cell officials, it will be easy for the visitors to lodge complaints and FIRs,” said a senior Delhi government official.
The officials have also pointed out that a study, which was shown in the Cabinet meeting, stated that there has been a rise in criminal cases involving foreigners. “After going through the report on crime against foreigners, the committee didn’t wanted to take chances and suggested the government for the presence of complaint cell officials,” said an OC official.
The officials have also pointed out that the complaint cell officials have also been given special training to understand various languages and dialects. “The complaint cell officials have attended special language training programmes to interact with the visitors,” stated an OC official.
Officials added that the cell will have its presence at all the stadiums, including the practice venues, the Commonwealth Games Village, and the five-star hotels where some delegates are expected to stay.
