The city came to a standstill after heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon. The roads were flooded and subsequently huge traffic jams brought trouble to Delhiites after heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightening hit the city during the day.

People were stuck for several hours at a stretch due to traffic jams.
The traffic was moving at a snail’s pace on the Ring Road, Moolchand to Dhaula Kuan, AIIMS, Nizamuddin.
A heavy traffic jam was witnessed on the Aurobindo Marg towards carriageway of IIT flyover as a tree fell on the road.
To add to the misery, the BJP’s procession on Baba Kharag Singh Marg added to the woes of commuters. Being a festival day, people out on their vehicles got stuck in the middle due to heavy rains lashing the city.
“I started from my Gupta Market workplace to Dhaula Kuan at around 2.30 pm. On a regular day, it takes just around half an hour to cover the distance but today the bus took more than three hours. What are the municipal corporation and the Delhi government doing? Why do we have to face such problems every time it rains, why cannot they be prepared beforehand?” said Anita, a hassled commuter stuck in the traffic jam.
Since the onset of monsoon, the capital has received 650 mm of rainfall, 44 per cent above average.
The met department has forecast more showers for Wednesday, which is expected to spell more trouble for commuters.
According to the weatherman, the city received a total of 95.2 millimetres of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Tuesday.
However, there was no significant drop in the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 33.5 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature settled three notches below average at 23.7° Celsius on Tuesday.
Humidity levels wavered between a high of 97 and a low of 67 per cent, said a senior met department official.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
