Commuters can use lanes during no Games traffic
The Delhi police and Central security agencies have taken charge of Commonwealth Games venues and Games Village even as construction work continues at these sites.
The Delhi police also operationalised exclusive CWG lanes on important routes across the capital on Sunday to facilitate the movement of athletes and delegates who arrived for the event.
“No traffic will be allowed on the dedicated lanes during the movement of Games athletes and delegates,” said Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat.
However, normal traffic will be permitted in these lanes when there is no movement of athletes and delegates on them, he added.
“Since some work is going on at some venues and the Games Village, the sites have not been totally sanitised. However, we have secured the places and only those people are being allowed who are carrying accreditation cards issued by competent authorities,” Mr Bhagat said.
Earlier, the home ministry had told the organising committee to complete all work at venues by Friday night and hand them over to the Delhi police for lockdown.
Police sources said that around 85,000 policemen in uniform and plain clothes and 20,000 paramilitary commandos have been deployed in and around the Games stadia and Games Village.
“All the roads leading to Games venues and the Village have been barricaded and unmanned aerial vehicles keep an aerial eye on the venues to guard against any terror strike from air,” a senior police official said.
