CNG price up by Rs 3.70/kg in city
The CNG and PNG prices were hiked in Delhi and other towns of the national capital region (NCR) on Saturday. The price of CNG was hiked by a steep `3.70 per kg in the national capital, the second increase in rates in two and a half months.
With the hike, CNG in the national capital will now cost `45.60 per kg against `41.90 earlier. Rate of the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) has been hiked by `3 per scm. CNG price was last hiked on June 25 when rates went up by `2 per kg, from `39.90 to `41.90 per kg.
Piped natural gas (PNG) prices too were hiked from `23.50 per standard cubic metre to `24.50 per scm for consumption of up to 30 scm in two months.
The hike follows last week’s steep increase in petrol price by `2.35 per litre and diesel rates being raised by 50 paisa per litre as fall in rupee made imports costlier.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd said rates in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad were being hiked “due to recent weakening of rupee vis-à-vis dollar.”
While CNG price in Delhi has been hiked by `3.70 per kg, the same in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad goes up by `4.20 per kg.
“The new consumer price of `45.60 per kg in Delhi and `51.55 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida & Ghaziabad would be effective from midnight tonight,” IGL said in a statement.
Consumer price of PNG to the households in Delhi was also being revised from `24.50 per scm to `27.50 per scm upto consumption of 30 scm in two months. For consumption beyond 30 scm in two months, the applicable rate in Delhi would be `47.50 per scm.
Claiming that the increase would not have a major impact on the per km running cost of vehicles, IGL said for autos, the increase would be 11 paisa per km, for taxi it would be 18 paisa per km and in case of buses, the increase would be `1.05 per km, which translates to two paisa per passenger-km.
