CM eyes cylinder-free city
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said that after making the city kerosene-free, her government would search the possibilities of making the city cylinder-free. Claiming the “kerosene-free Delhi” scheme a success, Ms Dikshit said the next target will be the LPG cylinders.
“The government is in talks with the companies that are providing piped natural gas (PNG) in the city. Possibility of making Delhi completely cylinder-free will be discussed. It might take a time of 4-5 years or more,” she said.
Following the recent major fire incident of Chandni Chowk, Ms Dikshit had also held discussions with senior fire department officials to sort out the problems during such incidents in densely-populated and highly-congested areas in the city.
“The rehabilitation programme of Chandni Chowk is on progress. As we can not shift the entire area, so we are finding some way out to tackle such incidents,” she said. While answering a question on the upcoming programme of Delhi Annashree Yojana, Ms Dikshit said that her government’s three schemes aim at providing low-cost food to the poor people.
“The government is operating ‘Jan Ahaar’ and ‘Aap Ki Rasoi’ to provide low-cost food for poor people. By launching the Annashree Yojana we want to ensure a hunger-free Delhi,” she said.
However, Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra alleged that the Annashree Yojana, which has to be launched by Sonia Gandhi on December 15, is a violation of model code of conduct in view of Gujarat Assembly elections.
