Civic agencies downplay reports of irregularities
A day after reports of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) alleging poor quality and deviation from norms in various Games-related projects, the civic agencies sought to downplay the entire issue saying it was part of routine exercise between the commission and them. The CVC too put out a clarification on its website saying the reports regarding various CWG projects were initial findings and should not be construed as final report.
Talking to this newspaper, director general of CPWD V.K. Chugh said: “I don’t think there is any report like that. These are routine issues. I don’t understand why they have been put out at this point. In many of the cases pointed out in the reports, the department has sent its replies long time back. In fact, the tests that were carried out had been done more than 18 months ago.” He added that although monitoring was difficult due to the sheer magnitude of the work, the department had its own mechanisms to check the quality. NDMC spokesperson Anand Tiwari said that the Council has long replied to the posers of the CVC and there were several other mechanisms to check the quality.
Meanwhile, chief minister Sheila Dikshit, while maintaining that she was not aware of any such report by the CVC, however, said that action would be taken against the guilty once the report was received. She also said that there was no need to politicise the issue.
