Chilly winds pull down mercury
Chilly winds blowing though the day left the citizens shivering on the first weekend of the New Year as the maximum temperature plummeted to 14.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the season so far, being six degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.8 degrees Celsius, a degree more than the normal. The weatherman has forecast similar weather conditions for the next 48 hours.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 17.8º Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 8.4º Celsius. Cold winds have been blowing across the city since Saturday afternoon forcing people to cover themselves in layers of woollens. The effect of the chilly winds was apparent at shopping malls and commercial hubs where the presence of people on the first weekend of the New Year was visibly thin.
According to the weatherman, the “cold day conditions” are likely to prevail for the next 48 hours, thanks to the possibility of rain or snowfall in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir on account of fresh western disturbance, which is mostly responsible for bringing cold, dry winds to the city.
