CCTVs to ensure free, fair Dusu polls
Among a slew of measure to hold free and fair students’ union elections on September 13, Delhi University has decided to install CCTV cameras besides hiring commercial videographers to record election activities.
“The election officers shall videograph all activities related to the polls. They may hire commercial videographers for this purpose. CCTV cameras will be installed at college gate and outside and inside the voting room,” said Dusu election chief election officer Ashok Vohra.
The measures for the Delhi University Students Union (Dusu) polls were decided during a meeting of election and returning officers chaired by vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh.
Chief election officer Ashok Vohra said that he has written to political leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Rajnath Singh, Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat to ensure that the students’ groups follow the code of conduct as per the Lyngdoh Committee Report.
Mr Vohra said entry on the day of elections will be limited only to bonafide students on production of their identity cards.
Candidates will also have to take prior permission of the principals for campaigning in colleges.
Issuing strict guidelines on campaign posters, Mr Vohra said handmade posters should be put up at designated places only.
“Photographs of the posters pasted at unauthorised places will be taken. Cases will be registered under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007,” he said.
