Budget Session from March 15?
The Delhi Cabinet in its next meeting is likely to recommend the lieutenant governor to summon the Budget Session of the state Assembly from March 15. As per the Cabinet proposal, the Budget Session will have 14 sittings in all and will end on April 1.
Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia is likely to submit his budgetary proposals in the last week of March. This will be the first Budget of the Delhi government in the recent years which will not have the Commo-nwealth Games as the main theme, which was hosted in the city in October last year.
The Delhi Cabinet in its meeting is likely to take up the proposal to summon the Budget Session of the Assembly along with another proposal on the salary and perks of the legislators. The tone for the Budget Session has already been set by the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, V.K. Malhotra, who told reporters on Wednesday that the party would prepare a chargesheet against the rule of the Sheila Dikshit-led government. It may be recalled that the relations between the Opposition BJP and the ruling Congress touched their low point last year, with the last Winter Session witnessing the whole Opposition getting expelled from the House.
