Bring new discoms, says BJP
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta on Friday sought termination of agreement with the private power distribution companies (discoms) and bringing in place nine better companies in as many districts in the city.
“If Delhi government really wants to serve the interests of the people then it should terminate the agreement with the discoms which are blackmailing the people and hand over the work of power distribution to nine separate honest power companies in all the nine districts of Delhi,” Mr Gupta said in a statement.
Mr Gupta expressed apprehension that the discoms might hike power tariff in collusion with the city government. “I have reliable information that discoms are going to increase power tariff with the connivance of the Delhi government and DERC,” Mr Gupta said.
Meanwhile, several areas in the city faced powercuts. Various areas reported power cuts of upto one hour. The peak power demand on Friday touched 4,353 MW, the highest in the season so far.
