Boats used to spray insecticide
Three more people died of swine flu in the city taking the toll to 55 even as 15 fresh cases were detected in the capital on Thursday. The dengue menace too continues to grip the capital as 73 new cases were reported, taking the total to 2,085.
“Three people died of swine flu. Two died at Apollo Hospital and one at the GTB Hospital. Also, 15 new cases have been confirmed, “ a health ministry official said.
Meanwhile, the dengue menace is becoming uncontrollable as the case count reached 2,085, even as authorities undertook a special drive to prevent mosquito breeding near the Commonwealth Games Village using boats.
The health personnel went in 21 boats to spray anti-larval chemical on three sides of the Games Village, said chairman, MCD public health committee, V.K. Monga. The boats carried officials from the MCD and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force.
The civic bodies are attributing incessant rains and stagnation of water at Commonwealth Games construction sites to the rapid increase in dengue cases this season.
The city government had earlier directed MCD to form 100 teams to spray mosquito repellent in the two km radius surrounding the Games Village.
