BJP writes to PC to put MCD split on hold
The Delhi BJP on Friday wrote a letter to Union home minister P. Chidambaram asking him to put the process of MCD trifurcation on hold. A delegation of party leaders plans to meet Mr Chidambaram to discuss the issue.
Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said that a lot of infrastructure is required to make the three different civic bodies operational.
“The government has trifurcated the MCD but there is a lack of infrastructure. We will meet the home minister and explain the technicalities and problems in the trifurcation. At present, the MCD can only operate like the previous version. We don’t have enough staff and infrastructure for three civic agencies,” Mr Gupta said.
The BJP has emerged as the ruling party in all three civic bodies — North, East and South — after winning the municipal elections.
The BJP’s move to press for putting the trifurcation of MCD on hold drew strong reaction from the Congress. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said, “We have already trifurcated the MCD and there is no need of stalling it now.”
Delhi Congress chief J.P. Agarwal slammed the BJP move saying, “Why they didn’t complain before polls.”
A delegation of Delhi BJP is likely to meet Mr Chidambaram on Saturday.
