BJP to target govt in House today

The last Assembly session is likely to start on a stormy note from Tuesday. With the issues of skyrocketing prices of onion, power tariff hike, water crisis and price rise in basic commodities, the Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to corner the government. Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra chaired a meeting of BJP legislative party on Monday to discuss the party’s strategy to corner the city government during the Assembly session.

“Delhi is surrounded by various problems and the Sheila Dikshit government miserably failed to solve these problems. This Monsoon Session would be the last session of the present Assembly and that too for mere three days in which there is one day for private member that means the whole session is for two days only. There are innumerable problems being faced by the public and all these were to be discussed during the session. But the Delhi government has betrayed the public at every front and even now it does not want to consider any of its problems in the Assembly,” he said.
The session is also important for the city government, as it is the last chance for it to pass various bills before Assembly elections.
For the first time in Delhi, the Assembly session will be telecast live on the Delhi Assembly’s website.
The Delhi government has spent `11 lakh to become the third state, after Bihar and Rajasthan, to webcast the Assembly proceedings.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri said, “Six reports of various committees will be tabled in the Assembly during the session which includes the 14th report of the Business Advisory Committee, fourteenth report of Committee on Private Members Bills and Resolutions, first report of Ethics Committee, fifth report of Committee on Government Assurances, second report of Committee on Environment and the third report of Committee on Welfare of SC and ST.”
