BJP mla warns of immolating self at cm home
A BJP MLA on Monday threatened to set himself on fire at the residence of chief minister Sheila Dikshit if she fails to resolve the problem of supply of potable water in his constituency immediately.
BJP legislator from Palam Assembly constituency Dharamdev Solanki alleged that due to political rivalry, 12 lakh people in his constituency and neighbouring areas were facing acute drinking water shortage for the past eight years.
“Being the chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, the CM has failed to arrange water for the water command tank number 1 situated in Sector-7, Dwarka, which is waiting for water supply for the last 8 years,” Mr Solanki said.
The BJP MLA said that he had met the CM many times, raised the issue in Assembly, staged dharna with the people of the affected areas but their appeal had fallen on “deaf ears”.
“If the CM fails to do justice to the people of affected area and continues her political revenge, then the citizens would gherao her residence. And I would be compelled to immolate myself,” Mr Solanki warned the chief minister.

HC refuses to recall order against lawyer
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Jan. 16
The Delhi high court on Monday refused to recall its order sentencing a lawyer to seven days in jail and imposing a three-month ban on him from practising in any court for assaulting a woman colleague inside the court room.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, which had penalised the lawyer after holding him guilty of committing criminal contempt of court on the basis of admission of guilt by him, dismissed the lawyer’s plea for recall of the order.
“We are of the view that our order passed on January 13 does not call for any modification. To our mind, it does not amount to only scandalising the court but also obstruction of the administration of justice, so the incident would constitute criminal contempt,” the court said.
“An advocate is supposed to show decency and maintain decorum during the court proceedings, especially, when the opponent lawyer happens to be a woman,” the bench said.
