BJP misleading on tariff cut: CM
Sensing the anger among residents over hefty power bills and the Delhi BJP’s poll promise to slash the tariff by 30 per cent, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday accused the opposition of “misleading” Delhiites with false promises.
Speaking at an inauguration function of laying of sewerage system at Kondli in east Delhi, Ms Dikshit said, “The opposition’s promise to reduce power tariff by 30 per cent is false and misleading. They are keen to capture power by instilling the hopes which are going to be dashed in the near future. They can bring down the tariff only by effecting longer powercuts of 10 hours or more duration. It is for the public to opt between a dark city and an illuminated city.”
Underlining the subsidies on power tariff, she claimed her government has given relief to 73 per cent Delhiites.
“At least 73 per cent of Delhiites belonging to poor and middle class families are being benefited with the government’s subsidies. The subsidy has been increased from `1 to `1.20 upto 200 units’ consumption and between 201 to 400 units the tariff has been brought down from `5.80 to `5 per unit,” she said.
She said that 12 unauthorised colonies in the Kondli constituency will be benefited with the sewer lines.
