The MCD elections, scheduled to be held on April 15, became intense on Tuesday as the BJP opened fire on the Congress. BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Delhi BJP president Mr Vijender Gupta and senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu launched a booklet on the corruption of the Congress government in the national capital. Mr Gadkari, while launching the booklet written by Dr Kirit Somaiya, alleged that the city government has done the same corruption as the UPA government is doing in the Centre.
“The CAG report on the CWG scam, Shunglu committee and Lokayukta reports on the wastage of hard-earned money of Delhiites and corruption in every part of the government is highlighted through this booklet. The wrong policies of the Congress government resulted in wastage of taxpayer’s money. The book contains 35 scams of the Delhi government,” Mr Gadkari said. Pulling up the Delhi CM over the issue of the Lokayukta’s notice to one of its minister, Mr Rajkumar Chauhan, Mr Gadkari said that the BJP has eliminated corruption from every level and the Congress is defending their tarnished partymen.
“The Congress party started making noise when the Lokayukta of Karnataka made allegations on former CM B.S. Yeddiyurappa. He resigned from his post and now he came out clean. But when the Delhi Lokayukta clearly mentioned that one of the minister of the Congress government is indulged in corruption, the Congress started defending the minister,” he added.
Pointing finger at chief minister Sheila Dikshit for the alleged irregularities in hosting of the event, he said the Congress leader should have resigned after submission of the Shunglu Committee report.
The Congress immediately counter-attacked and alleged that the rival party was not raising local issues as it had “failed” in governing the civic body for the past five years.
Besides its chief J.P. Agarwal, the Delhi Congress fielded two ministers — Arvinder Singh Lovely and Haroon Yusuf — to attack the BJP, which currently rule the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. However, lack of bigshots and national level leaders slowed down the counter attack.
