Bawana plant working at 7% of net capacity
The much-hyped Bawana power plant of the Delhi government, constructed at a cost of `4,500 crores, is still not fully operational. According to the Delhi government officials, the plant is generating only 216 MW of electricity, which is less than seven per cent of its total capacity of 1,500 MW. In 2008, the government-run power generation company Pragati Power Corporation Limited had planned to construct the gas turbine power plant in Bawana.
However, the commercial use of this plant was started only on December 14 last year with a 750 MW module of the plant.
“The biggest obstacle in functioning of the plant is supply of the fuel (gas). The suppliers are not able to provide the fixed quantity of gas continuously. The fluctuation in the supply is also because of less production of gas from suppliers,” said a senior Delhi government official.
