Barapullah corridor to link Mayur Vihar
Delhiites will be able to travel from east to south and central Delhi in 10 minutes as the proposal of connecting Barapullah elevated road with Mayur Vihar Phase I has been approved on Thursday. Lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung approved the project at a meeting of Unified Traffic and Transport Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Centre. The project will cost around `700 crores. It will start in 2014 and finish in year 2018.
PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said, “With the approval for third phase of the elevated road, the PWD can now connect INA Market to Mayur Vihar Phase I. The project will be completed in three phases.”
Construction of the first phase will include construction of elevated road between Sarai Kale Khan and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Phase-II of the project will involve extension of the stretch upto INA Market, while Phase-III will extend the elevated road to Mayur Vihar Phase I. The PWD will also construct cycle tracks and footpath along the Phase III stretch of the elevated corridor. The road will have four lanes, he added.
A Pune-based research institute has been appointed to conduct hydraulic study for the new Yamuna bridge. The plan will now be sent to Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) and it will soon commence the process of preparing a detailed project report.
Motorists using the extended road stretch will be able to descend near Mayur Vihar Phase I Metro Station. Those heading towards Sarai Kale Khan can climb on to Barapullah Road near the metro station. Phase-III is expected to be used by 1.5 lakh motorists per day.
