Bakkarwala gives cops slip again
Notorious carjacker Manoj Bakkarwala, who escaped from police custody, again dodged the city police on Monday morning. Few rounds were also fired in a high-voltage car chase between him and the police. According to the police, a team
got specific information about Bakkarwala travelling in a Hyundai i20 car. The team spotted him in east Delhi and chased him.
“When the car crossed Yamuna Bridge, the team intercepted Bakkarwala’s vehicle. As police closed in on him, Bakkarwala tried to escape and reversed his car hitting sub-inspector Sanjeev,” an official said.
“As he felt that he cannot escape, he opened fire at us. He fired twice while the police party fired four rounds,” the official added.
However, Bakkarwala managed to escape, he said. 36-year-old Bakkarwala, who is allegedly involved in around 500 cases of auto theft, escaped from the custody of Haryana police on the way back from Saket Court to Bhondsi Jail on June 20.
Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta on Monday announced a cash reward of `50,000 to any one providing information on the notorious thief, who hails from Nangloi. Bakkarwala was evading the police for years till the special cell of Delhi police arrested him on July 15, 2009. He has managed to escape from custody several times in the past. The officials said that he has excellent driving skills, which help him to flee.
“He has a lavish lifestyle and was in relationship with a girl in Haryana who is doing MBA,” the official said.
