Auto driver returns bag with valuables
In a rare display of selfless behaviour, an autorickshaw driver returned a bag filled with cash and jewellery to a Patna-based couple who had left it behind in his vehicle in Chanakyapuri area on Thursday.
The incident took place on Thursday morning when the auto driver, Vinod Kumar, was waiting for a passenger outside the American embassy in Chanakyapuri. The couple, Ravi Ranjan and Kimi Kumari, emerged from the embassy and asked Kumar to drop them at a nearby bus stand.
Vinod ferried the couple to their destination and returned to the embassy where he realised that the couple had left behind a bag. When he opened it, he found `1 lakh cash and jewellery worth `50,000 in it. Kumar rushed to the place where he dropped the couple but couldn’t find them.
He then went to the Chanakyapuri police station and handed over the bag. He was explaining the matter to a constable when the couple arrived at the police station to report loss of their bag and found Kumar talking to a policeman.
The bag was returned to the couple and Kumar was patted by senior police officials. The couple thanked him for his honesty. Ravi hails from Patna and he had come to Delhi to apply for a visa to US.
