An Australian national was held hostage by two unidentified assailants at Bhuli Bhatiyari Mahal in Lutyens’ Delhi and robbed of his gold ornaments on Wednesday. The police said the victim, who had arrived in the national capital last week on a tourist visa, was staying at Chanchal Delux Hotel.
On Wednesday, he left his hotel to go for sight seeing when he met an unidentified assailant who offered to arrange for satisfying his sexual desires.
“Driven by urge, the victim, identified as Micheal Curtis, a resident of Bristol in Australia, agreed and the two hired an autorickshaw from outside the hotel and left,” a source said.
The assailant escorted Michael to Bhuli Bhatyari Mahal located near Panchkuian Road in the heart of the city and led him to an isolated spot where another assailant was waiting for them.
“The two asked the victim to kneel down and threatened him to keep quiet or face consequences. The assailants then snatched a gold chain, a gold bracelet and two gold rings the victim was wearing and escaped,” the source said.
The victim then contacted his friends and Australian embassy following which the Mandir Marg police was approached and the statement of the victim was recorded.
“The victim told us that he was not able to remember the registration number of the autorickshaw that he had hired from outside his hotel. We are questioning the hotel authorities and some people and a case has been registered at the Mandir Marg police station,” a senior police official said.
