Arms dealer from Meerut arrested
The Delhi police has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly selling illegal firearms to criminals. Khilafat, from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from Jehangirpuri on Friday when he came there to allegedly deliver weapons, Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said. Eight weapons,
including three guns, five country-made pistols and 35 cartridges were recovered from him. He had brought these weapons to deliver in the capital. On September 14, a bag containing 630 live cartridges and 70 unfinished cartridges were recovered near the bus stand in Meerut.
“Khilafat told us that this consignment also belonged to him but he had abandoned it due to police vigil in the area. On further interrogation, he disclosed that he procured the weapons from Radhana village in Meerut,” Mr Chand said.
