All MCD mayors slam Chauhan
All the three mayors of the three municipal corporations of Delhi came down heavily on Thursday on Delhi’s public works department minister’s stance to cover up the “massive fraud” committed in repairs of road and silting due to which all the “false” claims made by the Congress government regarding upkeep and maintenance of the roads in Delhi were washed down in rains.
Condemning the statement made by the minister of public works department Raj Kumar Chauhan about the three north, south and east corporations, the leaders of Delhi’s municipal corporations said, “Delhi is facing the problem of waterlogging during rain due to the dirty politics of the Delhi government.”
They alleged that Delhi government is solely responsible for the situation that arises during monsoon.
The mayors recalled that on December 8, 2011, the Delhi government decided to take over 499 streets with a width of 60 feet and above from civic agency. Delivering a unanimous opinion they said, “It was responsibility of the Delhi government to maintain these roads but it has failed to do so leading to complete collapse of the road infrastructure.”
The leaders of the three corporations said that the Delhi government first divided the corporation into three parts to weaken the local body and suppress its powers. It, then, has been trying to limit the corporation’s jurisdiction by undertaking many departments that are regulated by local civic body in any other state, said Leader of the House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mahender Nagpal. South Delhi mayor Sarita Choudhary said, “The situation of waterlogging in the city is due to the Delhi government’s ill-preparedness as the drains falling under the corporations were desilted well before the rainy season but bigger drains which belong to PWD or irrigation and flood control are choked which work as outfall for smaller drains. Despite of continuous requests and providing them with the photographs and videos clips of their choked drains, PWD and irrigation and flood control departments did not paid a heed to it.”
