AIIMS student ends life in hostel

A second year MBBS student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his hostel room on the campus on Tuesday.
A senior police official said a call about the incident was received around 11.30 am.
“The deceased, identified as Himanshu Katara, a native of Rajasthan, used to live in room number 6 of hostel number 3. He was found hanging by his fellow students who informed senior AIIMS officials who informed the police about the incident,” said the police official. He was declared dead when taken to AIIMS casualty.
The police said no suicide note has been recovered from the room of the deceased and the reason that made him take the extreme step is was yet to be ascertained. The police recorded the statements of AIIMS officials and his fellow students. His body was sent for post-mortem and his family members were informed about the incident.
According to preliminary investigations, Katara returned to Delhi from his hometown around three days ago and since then he had been living in depression. His friends confirmed that he was keeping to himself for the past few days.
“His friends came to meet him but found the door locked from inside. They knocked at the door but got no response. They got suspicious and went to the back side of the hostel room and peeped through a window and saw him hanging,” said the police official.
Meanwhile, AIIMS officials said that they got to know about the incident from trainee doctors.
“It was around 11.30 am. The friends of the deceased saw him hanging from the ceiling. The hostel warden and other students were informed,” said Dr Y.K. Gupta.
The police broke open the door of the hostel room in the presence of AIIMS officials, Dr Gupta further said.
“The student was found hanging and the body was cold with no sign of life. He was shifted to the AIIMS casualty at around 1.30 pm where he was declared brought dead,” said Dr Gupta. 
The police is scanning the call records of the deceased to find out the reason what made him commit suicide.
