AAP begins exercise to draft manifestos for constituencies
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is trying hard to emphasise its presence in the upcoming Assembly polls, said on Saturday that it will come up with 70 manifestos for 70 different constituencies in the city. The party has started doing street meetings and is going door-to-door asking people about issues they think should be included in the manifesto for their constituency.
“The process has already been kickstarted in New Delhi Assembly seat from where Arvind Kejriwal would contest against chief minister Sheila Dikshit. In phase one, around 32 meetings have been planned in the constituency. The response so far has been overwhelming with people coming forth in large numbers to share the local problems that they face in on daily basis. In a meeting held yesterday at Kali Bari Marg, more than 200 people participated and discussed their problems,” the party said in a statement on Saturday.
The process will continue in Patparganj seat from where AAP founder-member Manish Sisodia is contesting as the party candidate.
“The duty of a common man has been reduced to voting once in five years. After elections, people are made to run from pillar to post for getting even basic issues sorted out. This would change only when people start participating in democracy. The Aam Aadmi Party wishes to encourage the people to participate in democracy, one of the ways for doing so is by involving people in manifesto-making process,” he said.
