74 teachers awarded by Sheila
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday formally announced the extension of retirement age for teachers in Delhi government schools from 62 years to 65 years. She termed it as a humble gift to the teachers on Teacher’s Day.
“Good teachers train better students. And our humble gift to teachers is that we have decided to extend their retirement age from 62 to 65 years. The decision was taken recently in the Cabinet,” the chief minister said.
She also announced that students of the city government schools will soon be sent on “Bharat Darshan” trip at least once in their 12 years of study period.
“We have recently established a children’s academy. Our goal is not to keep our children only inside the classroom but also give them knowledge about the outside world,” she said on the sidelines of a function on Teachers’ Day.
“The first programme which we have thought about through this is taking the children at least once on a Bharat Darshan trip. The children should learn about our country. This will enhance their knowledge and reach,” she said.
Ms Dikshit gave cash awards of `25,000 each to 74 teachers on the occasion. While 47 teachers were from government, government-aided and private schools, 12 were from municipal corporation schools, physical instructors and sports and yoga teachers.
